Ladder Wheels

What are ladder wheels?

Ladder wheels are small ladder mounted wheels, typically 1-1/2" to 3" diameter and permanently mounted next to the feet of the ladder. Little Giant has some of the best available ladder wheels, called Tip & Glide wheels for ladders, but they only measure 3" diameter, are made to fit specific ladders and may require drilling holes in your ladder for installation. Ladder wheels enable you to roll your ladder over a smooth surface by tipping the ladder onto the wheels, then pull it to your work area. Ladder wheels support approximately 50% of your ladder weight, making your ladder easier to carry. Due to their size, mounting location and construction, ladder wheels work best indoors for occasionally moving small, light-weight ladders. While ladder wheels can be helpful under some conditions, you should also take a look at the low-cost, high-performance Ladder Mover™ that works with any size, type and brand of ladder, over any terrain and it carries nearly 100% of the weight.

Above is a very short, silent video showing a few of the Ladder Mover benefits.
Be sure to watch and listen to the 3 minute demo of the Ladder Mover on our Home page.

Ladder Wheels versus Ladder Mover™:

Ladder Wheels

Pros:

  1. Permanently attached to the ladder, so they’re always ready for action.

Cons:

  1. Small wheels don’t perform well on rough terrain. The ladder feet don’t have enough ground clearance and will drag when going over small bumps.

  2. To reduce the chance of injury, it’s best to pull your ladder in case the ladder feet scrape the ground or get caught in a crack. If you push the ladder and a ladder foot gets caught in a crack, the ladder could stop quickly, causing injury.

  3. It adds additional cost to each ladder because every ladder must have its own set of wheels.

  4. The wheels must be attached at the extreme end of the ladder to prevent scraping the ground. This produces the greatest possible turning radius, which makes tight turns impossible.

  5. The wheels only support about half the weight of the ladder, so you end up carrying the remainder of the weight.

  6. Some types of ladders don’t have a style of ladder wheels that fit them properly.

  7. Due to the small wheels and how they are mounted, the ladder must be carried close to the ground which may be difficult for a tall person.

  8. You must carry the ladder only oriented as the wheels dictate. You can’t make any adjustments to handle different situations.

  9. Some users reported that the ladder wheels fell apart in less than 3 years and needed replacement.

Ladder Mover™

Pros:

  1. Only one Ladder Mover is needed to move any number of ladders. You don’t need to purchase a separate Ladder Mover for each ladder.

  2. Works with any size of ladder.

  3. Works with any type of ladder.

  4. Works with any brand of ladder.

  5. Only takes a few seconds to load a ladder.

  6. Carries nearly 100% of the load.

  7. Enables you to carry multiple ladders and supplies in one easy trip.

  8. Able to pivot around sharp corners like a zero-turn lawn mower and navigate winding trails that are impossible for ladders with built-in wheels.

  9. Able to carry the ladder in a position suitable for climbing stairs.

  10. Able to carry the ladder in a position suitable for a very tall person.

  11. Able to carry the ladder regardless of the rung spacing.

  12. Able to carry the ladder lying flat, enabling you to carry multiple ladders and supplies in one easy trip.

  13. Able to carry the ladder tipped on one side, enabling a wide step ladder to fit through a narrow doorway.

  14. Heavy-duty, over designed, so you can count on it working when you need it most.

  15. Made in USA from high strength plastic that will never rust.

  16. Bright red plastic floats and makes it easy to find if you drop it.

  17. Stores neatly on your hand truck so you always know where to find it.

  18. You'll have a hand truck at the jobsite without doing any extra work to get it there.

  19. Works great with a basic hand truck that’s available at one of your local stores.

  20. No tools installation, just slip it on to your hand truck toeplate.

  21. Has many uses in addition to moving ladders.

  22. Out performs every other way to move a ladder.

  23. Doesn’t affect the safe use of your ladder or degrade it in any way, because it’s only attached to your ladder during moving.

  24. Extends the life of your ladders by avoiding drops and collisions during moving.

  25. The best part is that it saves your back, prevents injuries due to lifting and carrying.

Cons:

  1. Loading a ladder onto the Ladder Mover requires a few more seconds than ladder wheels which are always ready to go. Just being able to carry multiple ladders and supplies in one trip easily negates this one Ladder Mover disadvantage.
